1. Frilly & Funkie : Welcome Spring!

   It’s Wednesday and time for the funkie side of the design team to share our projects for the current challenge over at the Frilly and Funkie Challenge Blog!

   This challenge is hosted by Nancy (Tattered Treasures), who has chosen the theme WELCOME SPRING …NANCY says, “Springtime! It’s fresh, soft breezes and fragrant blossoms are just around the corner. Create any vintage or shabby chic project that welcomes the advent of this glorious season. Think budding trees, birds and nests, butterflies, and beautiful blooms!”

   
   I went for a variation of the last card I made but using a different background stamp and replacing the distress inks for distress oxide inks!

   
   I started by stamping a circle collage background stamp by Wendy Vecchi in several places. I made masks with scrap paper so I could stamp the botanical register stamp (my current favourite) over the background, while keeping the collage circle clear.

   I blended the new distress oxide inks in broken china and peeled paint into the inside of the collage circles and then used the masks to cover them while I blended in vintage photo distress oxide into the background. I then spritzed with water from a distress sprayer and dried with a heat tool.

   
   I stamped the daisy flowers from flower garden and mini bouquet stamp sets by Tim Holtz, onto the smooth side of distress watercolor cardstock with potting soil archival ink by Wendy Vecchi. Press distress oxide ink pads onto a non stick craft mat and pick up with a waterbrush and watercolour the stamped daisies. I love the depth of colour and slight chalkiness you get from distress oxide ink.

   
   I used the same idea-ology foam stamps as last time. This time I used picked raspberry distress paint to stamp the first layer and then when dry, potting soil archival ink, slightly offset, for the top layer. Once stamped, I quickly rubbed with a piece of kitchen paper. The distress paint acts as a resist to the potting soil archival ink but the drop shadow remains. The potting soil does mute the brightness of the picked raspberry, (which I like).

   
   I stitched the edges and over stitched some of the stamped detail inside the collage circle and added an idea-ology ruler ribbon.

2. Frilly & Funkie : Out of the Cold

   It’s Wednesday and time for another challenge over at Frilly and Funkie Challenge Blog!

   This challenge is hosted by Cec (CW Card Creations), who has chosen the theme OUT OF THE COLD …CEC says, “It is winter and that means snow and cold in so many places so let’s head to the tropics. Create any vintage or shabby chic project that will make us feel warm – think lots of sunshine, bright colours, flora and fauna and even animals hiding in the rain forest.”

   Bright colours are always a bit of a challenge for me as it’s just not really my jam, but I love a challenge…

   
   Cut a piece of mixed media cardstock 7 x 5.25 inches. I stamped the new rectangle collage background stamp by Wendy Vecchi in cornflower blue archival ink. Overstamp in jet black archival ink with the botanical register background stamp, also by Wendy Vecchi. I LOVE this stamp!!

   
   Blend pumice stone and broken china distress ink inside the rectangle collage stamped area. Then blend vintage photo distress ink over the outer area. Spritz with water and set aside to dry.

   
   I used the new idea-ology block lower cling foam stamps by Tim Holtz with picket fence distress paint to stamp a series of numbers over my background. Once dry, ink up the cling foam stamps with potting soil archival ink and stamp onto scrap paper twice and then stamp, slightly offset over the original stamped image.

   
   Stamp flowers from the flower garden and mini bouquet sets onto distress watercolor cardstock. Scribble distress crayons onto a non stick craft mat, (I used seedless preserve, fossilized amber and peeled paint). Using a water brush, pick up the distress crayon and watercolour the stamped images and fussy cut. I love the depth of colour you get when watercolouring with distress crayons.

   
   Stamp a bee from the tiny things stamp set and watercolour distress markers, (I used wild honey for the body and tumbled glass for the wings). Once dry fussy cut.

   
   Use this dry embossing technique by Tim Holtz to give the bee and the flowers a cool dimensional effect. Attach with glossy accents and 3D foam.

   
   Bend the prongs off a fork from the idea-ology silverware set. To age, dab mushroom alcohol ink on with a cotton bud and allow to dry. Using the other end of the cotton bud, roll over potting soil archival ink and dab onto the fork. Attach with glossy accents.

   
   Punch 2 banners with the Tim Holtz Large banner paper punch. Blend vintage photo distress ink into one and broken china distress ink into the other, spritz with water and once dry mount one over the other, slightly offsetting. Age an idea-ology adornment index clip, using the same technique as the fork, and clip over the banner. Add some remnant rubs inside the index clip window.

4. Frilly & Funkie : Be My Valentine?

   It’s Wednesday and time for another challenge over at Frilly and Funkie Challenge Blog!

   This time it’s my turn to host the challenge and I’ve chosen the theme BE MY VALENTINE! “Love is in the air, and with Valentines Day just around the corner, this challenge is to make a card for your sweet Valentine in a vintage or shabby chic style.”

   It has been snowing here in Copenhagen this week. A light dusting in comparison to the snow we used to enjoy in Gruyere, but it definitely put me in the mood for a blue palette when making my valentines card.

   
   To begin, I swiped broken china, frayed burlap and walnut stain distress ink onto a non stick craft mat. Spritzed with water, picked up the ink with a brayer and rolled it onto mixed media heavystock. Added numbers remnant rubs and lightly sanded with a sanding grip.

   
   I inked the Tim Holtz newsprint stamp with potting soil archival ink and rolled the stamp lightly over the background in random places. LOVE this stamp, it’s one of my most used.

   
   I created the hearts using Wendy Vecchi’s faux granite technique. It’s such an easy and effective technique. I used cornflower blue archival ink and embossing powder and the splatter background stamp, all by Wendy Vecchi.

   
   Naturally I used the new idea-ology paper dolls. I used the photo tinting technique on the flowers, using a victorian velvet distress marker. I mounted the dolls onto 3D foam.

   
   I inked the edges of a new idea-ology quote chip with potting soil archival ink and adhered under the paper dolls feet. I sanded the edges of a piece of the classic kraft stock, brushed with a collage glue stick and burnished with a foil transfer sheet from Ranger ink.

   
   I flicked some black soot distress paint over the background and attached a fluted ring fastener and a discontinued idea-ology chain tassel. I’m dedicating this card to my crafty friend Sue Adams, who hoarded packs of these chain tassels and shipped them from the US for me. Friends help friends hoard discontinued idea-ology!

5. Creativation 2017 : Sizzix 2

   Hello everyone. Today I am sharing the second sample that I made for the Tim Holtz Sizzix Alterations Booth at Creativation.

   For this card I tried to go a little less grungy than usual and tap into my pretty side. I used the new Tim Holtz Sizzix Alterations floral texture fade folder and sentiment words thinlits die set to make this Mother’s Day card.

   
   To begin, I stamped one side of the new floral texture fade folder using a Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous background stamp, inked with vintage photo distress ink and ran through my big shot machine. The stamped image will transfer onto the non raised portions of the cardstock.

   
   I die cut an oval frame from mixed media cardstock and blended in vintage photo distress ink. I brushed with a sanding grip to snag some of the edges to give a worn look and adhered over the background. I die cut wildflowers with the thinlits die set from gold deco sheets. I LOVE this stuff!

   
   Next I sprayed a crinkle ribbon with stormy sky distress stain spray and tied it around the embossed background. I mounted it onto paper from the new etcetera paper stash and idea-ology classic kraft stock which I sanded. I cut a strip of idea-ology classic kraft stock and die cut “Mother’s Day” from the new sentiment words thinlits dies and carefully sanded with a sanding grip. I mounted it over a strip of deco sheet and adhered to the card.

   
   The floral texture fade folder creates such a pretty background that needs very little added to complete a card. Mixed with the sentiment words die set you could make cards for lots of different occasions.

6. Creativation 2017 : Sizzix 1

   Hello everyone. Apologies for the delay, I meant to come back on Friday with this post, but wasn’t very well. Today I am sharing first of two small contributions to the Tim Holtz Sizzix Alterations Booth at Creativation.

   For the first sample I used the new  Tim Holtz Sizzix Alterations croc texture fade folder and sentiment words thinlits die set to make this Father’s Day card.

   To start with, I embossed a piece of the chocolate brown idea-ology substrate with the new croc texture fades folder.

   
   Using a piece of the white substrate, I die cut a prize ribbon and covered with fired brick distress ink. I aged a new idea-ology adornment star with fossilized amber distress paint and attached with collage matte medium.

   
   I sanded an idea-ology cabinet card frame with a sanding grip and blended in vintage photo distress ink. I mounted over an image from the new etcetera paper stash by Tim Holtz.

   
   I die cut “father’s day” using the new Tim Holtz Sizzix Alterations sentiments words thinlits die set from classic kraft core and mounted over  a strip of metallic kraft stock. Finally, I mounted the layers onto the card and added some stitching with my sewing machine.

7. Creativation 2017 : idea-ology 2

   Hello everyone. Thank you so much for your kind comments on my last post, I really appreciate it. Today I am back with part 2 of my samples for the Tim Holtz Idea-ology Booth.

   My second sample, a clipboard memo pad, was inspired by the gorgeous new memoranda paper stash and I HAD to use one of the new idea-ology rulers!

   
   To begin with, I disassembled an idea-ology mini clipboard. Covered the clip with picket fence distress paint, dried a little and then wiped away the excess with kitchen paper. I repeated this process using evergreen bough distress paint. Finally I dry brushed with tarnished brass distress paint.

   
   I used the notebook stamp from the Tim Holtz school desk stamp set (CMS057), with jet black archival ink and stamped onto paper from the new memoranda paper stash. I scored a line near the top and punched holes.

   
   I covered the mini clipboard with paper from the Memoranda Paper Stash, ephemera from the snippets ephemera pack and design tape. I used linen ribbon to hold the memo pad together and adhered it to the clipboard. I added an aged pencil with twine to an adornments index clip which I aged with distress paint.

   
   As a final flourish I added one of my new favourite idea-ology items, the adornments stars, which I aged with distress paint and attached with collage glue. …I won’t tell you how many packs of these I have ordered, but I would get in there quickly!

   
   I snapped an idea-ology ruler in half, sanded with a sanding block and stained with vintage photo distress stain. The buttons are actual vintage buttons that Paula Cheney kindly sent me from her personal stash, (you should see the collection she has… swoon)!

8. Creativation 2017 : idea-ology 1

   Hello everyone. If you’re anything like me, the weekend before last was a write off as I spent it glued to social media waiting for facebook live videos and photos from this years Creativation, (formerly CHA).

   Last week I spent pre-ordering all the new products and this week I’m going to share the samples I made for the Tim Holtz Idea-ology and Sizzix Alterations Booths.

   My first sample is a secret garden inspired altered assemblage clock, using lots of the new idea-ology line by Tim Holtz.

   
   To begin with, I disassembled an assemblage clock. Covered it with picket fence distress paint, dried a little and then wiped away the excess with kitchen paper. I repeated this process using evergreen bough distress paint. Finally I dry brushed with tarnished brass distress paint. Once dry I reassembled the clock.

   
   I added an crinkle ribbon that I stained with antique linen distress spray. I glued a little green moss to the top of the clock with glossy accents, adding some of the new bouquet findings flowers which I stained with fossilized amber and picked raspberry distress spray. I covered the center or the flower with scattered straw distress paint and added a few tiny drops of glossy accents to give a faux water droplet effect. Finally I attached my favourite piece from the new snippets ephemera. I seriously love this! Everything was edged with vintage photo distress ink.

   
   I aged a swivel clasp with adornments treasures and adornments keys with gold mixative alcohol ink and hung from the clock handle.

   
   I covered the inside of the clock with paper from the new memoranda paper stash. Glued moss along the bottom of the clock and added botanical layer flowers. I added mushroom alcohol ink to a salvaged doll, altered her dress with a little victorian velvet distress paint. I added a crown and wand from the adornments treasures that I stained with gold mixative alcohol ink. I then nestled amidst the botanical layers.

   
   It was such an honor to make a small contribution to the incredible Tim Holtz booths. A big thanks to Tim Holtz, Mario Rossi and Paula Cheney for inviting me to be part of this amazing team. 9. Frilly & Funkie Winter Hues

   It’s Wednesday and time for another challenge over at Frilly and Funkie Challenge Blog! I’m delighted to be back on the Frilly & Funkie design team for another term. This week it’s the funkie side of the team to join the challenge.

   This challenge is hosted by Suzz (Suzz’ Stamping Spot), who has chosen the theme WINTER HUES …SUZZ says, “The weather this time of year in the Midwest gets to be a bit chilly, icy, snowy and overcast. These elements of the season create a beautiful palette of colors which I am calling Winter Hues. This challenge requires you use any or all of the following colors: blue, white, silver, gray in your vintage or shabby chic project.”

   I love this challenge! I used blue, white, grey and silver in my card… and yes, brown, plenty of brown!

   
   I worked in layers and blended pumice stone distress ink onto mixed media heavystock and spritzed with water. I love this technique and especially love the fantastic mottled effect the distress sprayer gives. I dried with a heat tool, stitched the edges with my sewing machine and mounted onto black core’dinations kraft core, which I sanded of course.

   
   On top of that, I layered a piece of silver idea-ology metallic kraft stock. I sanded the edges with a sanding grip and blended in vintage photo distress ink.

   
   For the next layer wanted to try and recreate an embossed technique Tim Holtz demonstrated in Creative Chemistry 103 with the shadow press. It didn’t work exactly as I had hoped, but I managed to make it work for me, and quite liked the effect. I rubbed a versamark ink pad over the raised portion of the embossing folder and ran it through my big shot with mixed media heavystock. I then poured embossing powder over the top. This is where it didn’t work properly… I can’t find my brayer, I had it at the weekend but now it’s MIA and when I used the versamark ink pad it touched the flat portions of the folder and there was embossing powder everywhere! Using a dry paintbrush, I carefully brushed the powder off the negative portions and melted the powder with a heat tool.

   
   I blended stormy sky distress ink onto the card, edged with vintage photo distress ink and spritzed with water. I used this particular embossing folder as it reminded me of the cold winds blowing. I was pleased with the effect as there is powder in the debossed detail and a little splattered around which looks like it was an “on purpose!” I am trying SO hard to “embrace imperfection” and not “freak my freak” as Tim says in Creative Chemistry.

   
   Next, I die cut a stitched rectangle frame and snowflakes with more of the silver idea-ology kraft stock. Sanded with a sanding grip and blended in vintage photo distress ink. I adhered them with glossy accents.

   
   I added a sentiment from the new idea-ology clipping stickers. I sanded the edges and blended with vintage photo distress ink. This sentiment just worked perfectly with the frosty cold colours.

   
   I also added a new idea-ology adornment index clips which I LOVE LOVE LOVE! I mounted it over a scrap of ephemera I had leftover from another project! Did I mention LOVE?!

   
   Finally I added an idea-ology fluted fastener to the center of the largest snowflake which I flattened with a hammer. My favourite bit though, was adding a new idea-ology paper doll! There are no words to truly describe how much I love these!

10. Frilly & Funkie Friday Focus

    Sorry that it’s been over a month since my last post. I spent Christmas in the UK with family and have been working on some projects for Creativation (formerly CHA)… but more on that in a later post. 😉
