304

Hello Friends. I’m back with another card using the new Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous stamps, this time using Distinguished (CMS371) and Fragments (CMS368) sets. I am sharing these cards on instagram and facebook, but continue to post on my blog for those of you who don’t use social media and to include some additional detail for those who would like it.

I created the background using a gel press and distress paints in evergreen bough, iced spruce and frayed burlap. Then stamped one of the stamps from the fragment (CMS368) sets in vintage photo distress archival ink.

Thanks to a question from my friend Tera, I have included how I use the gel press with distress paints to create backgrounds. There are lots of far more detailed instructions out there and I am very much a beginner, but if it helps, it’s below…

I used a 5×7 inch gel press, a brayer, distress paints and distress mixed media heavystock. Put a couple of drops of distress paint on the gel press and roll the brayer back and forth over to spread the paint. Lay a piece of distress mixed media heavystock over the gel press and rub the back of the cardstock and peel off. Repeat using a variety of colours of distress paint, until happy with the result.

I stamped the traditional hat and coat/collar from the new distinguished set and this time stamping and fussy cutting one of the new collars, which fit perfectly over the top of the bow tie. I added some snarky small talk stickers and design tape. Confession, the design tape was to cover up small tear. Design tape covers all! 😉

The frame is die cut with the stitched rectangles and run through with the lumbar 3D texture fades folder. Blending in walnut stain distress ink with a blending tool and mounting over the background with adhesive foam.

I also added some numbers from the typography set and piece of broken ruler leftover from another project. I added a wash of mushroom alcohol ink over the top of the numbers. I like to add meaning to my cards, even if sometimes hidden in plain sight.

304 is a significant number that I know a few of my friends will get… maybe. Hopefully. 😉

I have the single stamp with the hat and shoulders. I wish I had bought the whole set.
