Happy 4th of July

Happy 4th of July!

Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2015 - July
This wall hanging was inspired by Tim Holtz’s July 12 tags of 2015.

Tim Holtz new United States thinlits die is too cool. It cuts out the outline AND the individual states as well!

Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2015 - July
I used tissue tape to mask out lines and then inked up with distress ink, (don’t worry, I kept the tape to use on another project)! 😉

The stars were die cut using the thinlits shape strips.

Finally the entire die cut got swiped with vintage photo distress ink and spritzed with hickory smoke distress marker and spritzer tool. The hickory smoke is my new go to spritz colour!

I used Tim’s cool technique using crinkle ribbon and distress markers. Check out Tim’s blog post to see how.

    Hi Zoe…

I’m late to this post but had several questions. First off, this is gorgeous! It’s so old school Americana but so current…simply beautiful!

    1. How did you get the individual states to stay inside the thin outline of the USA? They cut completely out and there’s no backing so how did they stay in? Especially because you taped it off to ink it.

    2. What material did you cut the states/outline out of?

    3. What embossing folder is that in the background?

    4. Are the letters/number for “4th July” die cuts from a die you used? If so, what die?

Thanks for your questions, I will try to do a step-by-step, but for now…

      1. I adhered the outline to a piece of cardstock that was covered in wide double sided scor-tape. I stuck all of the states in place (like a jigsaw) and then fussy cut around the outside of the die cut
      2. Mixed media cardstock by Ranger Ink
      3. Tim Holtz subway texture fades folder
      4. No they are not die cuts, they are Tim Holtz idea-ology plastic alpha parts that I covered with distress paint and when almost dry rubbed gently to give a distressed look

I will also add a products list to this post. Hope this helps.
